Here's a soothing herbal tea recipe designed to help lower cortisol levels and promote relaxation. The herbs in this blend are known for their adaptogenic and calming properties, which can help support the body's response to stress.

Herbal Tea for Lowering Cortisol

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon ashwagandha root (dried)

  • 1 teaspoon holy basil (tulsi) leaves (dried)

  • 1 teaspoon lemon balm leaves (dried)

  • 1 teaspoon chamomile flowers (dried)

  • 1/2 teaspoon licorice root (dried)

  • 1/2 teaspoon lavender flowers (optional, for added calming effect)

  • 3 cups water

  • Honey or lemon (optional, for taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Herbs:

  2. Measure out the dried herbs. If the herbs are not finely chopped, you can crush them slightly to release more of their beneficial properties.

  3. Boil the Water:

  4. Bring 3 cups of water to a gentle boil.

  5. Add the Herbs:

  6. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat and add the ashwagandha root and licorice root. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, as these roots take longer to release their beneficial compounds.

  7. Add Remaining Herbs:

  8. After 10 minutes, add the holy basil, lemon balm, chamomile, and lavender flowers (if using). Turn off the heat and let the herbs steep in the hot water for an additional 5-10 minutes.

  9. Strain the Tea:

  10. Strain the tea into a teapot or directly into your cup using a fine mesh strainer.

  11. Serve and Enjoy:

  12. Add honey or lemon to taste if desired. Enjoy this tea warm, ideally in the evening or during a quiet time to help promote relaxation and stress relief.

Notes:

  • Ashwagandha is an adaptogen that helps the body manage stress and balance cortisol levels.

  • Holy Basil (Tulsi) is known for its calming and adaptogenic properties.

  • Lemon Balm and Chamomile are calming herbs that can help soothe the nervous system.

  • Licorice Root can support adrenal function and has a mildly sweet taste.

  • Lavender adds a soothing aroma and flavor, enhancing the calming effects of the tea.
